Curious?

I have noticed that, within the past week, my server logs have shown quite a few people clicking on my author name at the bottom of posts and doing searches for "marydell." For all those curious, I am none of the search results (on Google, at least) except for those linking back to BookBlog and my Blogger user profile.

In addition, there has been an exponential increase in clicks on "About" and "FAQ" in the above navigation bar. Both of those pages are in severe need of updating since I have done little with them since BookBlog's inception.

I'm not sure what is behind the sudden curiosity. But if you want to know something about me or the site, all you have to do is ask by sending an e-mail or leaving a comment.

I'm also immensely curious about you, too. Why not leave a comment, even if it's just to say hello?

Did I just recognize your IP address in my server log looking at the "About the Site" page on my new (and still messy) consolidated site? ;)

I'm not sure why people look at these things really. Mine is still a messy of imported entries from other sites (though I managed to clean out a few). However, I did get one book from Da Capo Press for review as a result of a visit to the About Us. I haven't reviewed it yet though (and may not because it isn't very good) and the marketing wonk from Da Capo never responded to my email except to send the book.

Well, who knows. Maybe they're all just spammers looking for a good time.

Heh heh heh. I did poke around over there a bit earlier today just to get a look at what you've been up to. Consolidation is a good idea because it makes keeping up with you easier for your readers (and likely you, too). I'm also an obsessive comment & reply checker and should probably sign up for that service that keeps track of them for you.

Seeing the hits for "about" really struck me as odd. It went from one every few months to more than 10 in a day over several days.

Of course, as soon as I posted the above about leaving a "hello" comment, the traffic fell off a cliff. Eh, so it goes with blogging.

Indeed, traffic is a fickle thing. When AuthorStore was brand-spanking new in 1996, I had tons of traffic. Of course it was just a book search then, but one of the few back then. Wow, that seems like a long time ago.

Anyway, things change quickly...

The consolidation effort has been fun. I've found things I'd forgotten about along with things I wish I could forget. Still lots of work to do though. Way too many categories after the imports, but it's going along.

I know what you mean about the comment checking thing too. What service will check for you? I was actually thinking of writing one myself, but if someone's already done it.

I always thought it would be cool to have a blog tool that had external RSS feeds available int he admin interface (along with comments, newsgroups, and maybe even email newsletters). That would make it a lot easier to post quickly.

Here's a link to a post about three comment tracking services: splitbrain.org.

Speaking of comments, I'm sure I left one over at AuthorStore regarding "The Happy Writer." It hasn't shown up yet, so I've been wondering if it was ever received.

Having RSS feeds inside a blog app would certainly make linking easier. I know my posting tends to be excruciatingly slow, but I have a writing problem. Even creating one sentence can take hours.

I just saw this page in my referrer logs (Thanks marydell for linking me ;-)). So if you are curious about me have a look at my about me page.

Ahh... the wonderful world of circular links ;-)
